Mills Tavern Fundraising Event
Mark your calendar for the annual Mills Tavern Fundraising Event! This fun evening for adults will take place on Thursday, March 12 from 6-8 p.m. Tickets, available at the door, include a drink (wine or beer) and hor d’oeuvres. Minimum contribution of $25. Cash, check or credit card accepted. Hope to see you there!
PTO Meeting
The next PTO Meeting will be held on Wednesday, March 18. The PTO Board will meet at 6:15 and the PTO meeting will begin at 7 p.m. Both meetings will take place in the school cafeteria. All are welcome!
City of Providence Spelling Bee
The competition was fierce, the competitors were skilled and amazing at Nathan Bishop’s second annual Spelling Bee on Tuesday, Feb. 24. The words were astoundingly difficult. All of the spellers were deserving. We had a winner and many great competitors. In fourth place, was Enzo Cuseo. Coming in third place was Haley Long. Our second place finisher was Yousef Nagib. Finally, our champion was (drum roll, please) Lucas Crenshaw.
On Wednesday, Feb. 25, our four finalists (as well as last year’s winner Armish Khan) competed at Gilbert Stuart Middle School for the right to represent Providence in the Rhode Island Scripps National Spelling Bee. Providence Public Schools is the only urban district in Rhode Island to compete in the state spelling bee for the past two years.
Our remarkable representatives, Enzo Cuseo, Yousef Nagib, and Lucas Crenshaw, did a great job with some very difficult words. The brilliant Haley Long came in second place and the amazing Armish Khan came in third place in our citywide competition.
Alas, the Champion in first place was Joshua Estremera from Gilbert Stuart Middle School. Joshua will represent Providence in the Rhode Island Scripps National Spelling Bee on March 7 at Lincoln Middle School. We wish Joshua the best of luck in his next challenge at the state bee. All the competitors at both schools can be proud of a job well done!
Rockers/Gliders Needed
A request from a Nathan Bishop Teacher working with some very special Nathan Bishop students:
Students I teach have significant disabilities and most are reading between a pre-k and 1st grade level. They all take the state Alternate Assessment instead of NECAP/PARCC. A student’s family generously donated a Lakeshore Listening Center as a Christmas present to the class. My students LOVE to listen to books on CD and it is so beneficial for them. I want to use the rockers/gliders as a listening center. I have used bean bag chairs in the past in elementary settings, but feel chairs are more grade/age appropriate for middle school. Bean bags also pop and make a huge mess!! I am hoping that with all this snow people have been de-cluttering and might have something to donate!! – Stephanie Zonfrillo
